CDT Partners

Our CDT collaborates with a variety of partners across industry, academia, third sector and the NHS.

Partner with the AI4BI CDT

The UKRI AI Centre for Doctoral Training in Biomedical Innovation (AI4BI CDT) at the University of Edinburgh works with industry, healthcare and public sector organisations to develop cutting-edge biomedical AI research with real-world impact.

Through collaborative PhD projects, partners work with interdisciplinary doctoral researchers trained across AI, biomedical science and responsible innovation, helping translate advanced research into practical healthcare solutions.

We are now actively seeking sponsoring companies for PhD projects starting in 2027.

How collaboration works

Research projects within the AI4BI CDT are co-developed by academic supervisors and partner organisations to address real-world healthcare challenges and maximise translation into practice.

Partners can contribute in several ways, including:

  • Proposing a research project aligned with organisational priorities
  • Co-funding a PhD studentship
  • Providing data, mentorship or domain expertise
  • Hosting a student placement within their organisation

Industry partners are involved throughout the project lifecycle, helping shape research objectives, reviewing progress and identifying opportunities for real-world testing or deployment.

Projects may include a three-month placement with a partner organisation, providing valuable real-world experience for the student while enabling organisations to explore new AI approaches within their own context.

Benefits of partnering
